TARGET CORPORATION recently announced, in partnership with Fair Trade USA, that their Archer Farms coffee brand products will be certified fair trade by 2022. This is certainly a big move (and a welcome commitment) coming from a corporation as large as Target, but particularly so given that coffee futures are currently trading at their lowest levels in over a dozen years (Bloomberg).
One might speculate that if Target can make the cost model work while global prices are so low, then they’ll be able to scale viably in the [likely] event that the market rebounds. Regardless, this is a positive nudge for fair trade practices on a global scale.
